Shoot Turns Into an Inspiring Conversation

Few weeks ago I had a chance to photograph and meet one of the most amazing girl I know - Janelle Manning (Next Canada). I was so amazed by her sweetness and her grace in front of the camera. She has a very sweet personality and willingness to help others.

Janelle travelled / travelling the world modelling, I believe she's been doing this professionally for about 3-4 years, she told me that most of her bookings are for beauty shot. Because of my love for beauty photography I had to make sure I get a time to chat with her, so after the shoot we went for a coffee and chatted a little bit, I wanted to pick her brain and learn from her experience.

Just from listening to her stories and experiences, I am once again inspired to pursue what I love the most -- Beauty photography. I was a little bit discourage before as I was told that there's not much market for that, specially where I am right now. But I am a firm believer that we should follow our dreams and do what we love the most. My 30min - 1 hour chat with her was very inspiring to me that I wanted to shoot beauty right away, forget all this negative things that tells me to focus more on other things, although all this things are right, at the end of the day I want to be the person who tells the world that I follow my dreams and I am happy what ever the result is.

Few years back I heard a story about a little girl who asked her grandfather what was his dream when he was little. Her grandfather says "I wanted to be an Artist." Then the little girls asked "What happened to your dream?".

I don't want this to happen to me. I don't want my grandkids to ask me "What happened to your dream"
I am hoping that you will see more beauty photography on my website this year. I will do my best to pursue it.

Thanks Janelle, you might not know how much that you inspired me.

Shooting Outdoor

You prolly notice by now that I don't have much outdoor & location images.

I am a big fan of studio shoot and because of that it became my comfort zone.

There are few reasons why I don't shoot outdoor that often.
1. I don't like it when I don't have 100% control of light
2. I like simple and plain backgrounds
3. I like contrast
4. I don't have a car, carrying equipments is not really the most convenient thing to do.
5. Without a car I don't know how the model will do outfit change

But because I need to push myself in doing outdoor shoot.
And so I organize an outdoor shoot near the studio and I told myself I wont bring anything but my camera, reflector and a speed light.

After 4-5 hours of make up, styling and shooting outdoor, I pulled the models and did a quick indoor shoot just to be sure I have good shots (this is because I'm not confident enough that I got the shots from outdoor)

I believe the outdoor shoots turned out ok, and now I have more confident in doing more outdoor and I learned that It's actually a bit easier since I dont have to prepare and meter every single light source.

This is definitely a good learning experience for me.

A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.
